Dave fell in love with Timberframes when he was living in Whistler.
“I really loved the beauty of the wood. I would go for walks at night and admire the way the lighting accented the exposed beams and steel plates.”
He knew he would build his own someday.
Life took him down a different path at that time and he found himself working in the oil and gas industry. “I worked for 13 years in the oil patch but I always felt a need for more fulfillment in my life. I wanted to work with my hands and with big timbers, so I enrolled in the Big Wood program at the International school of building arts on Gabriola Island with James Mitchell where I learned about timber framing. I had heard a lot about Daizen and their reputation for precision and detail. I wanted to learn from the best and knew that this was where I could do it.”
